Friday - Kingsbarns Multi Terrain Race

Bloody Knees and Big Smiles

Results - Friday

Results - The Tour

What a fantastic end to a fantastic week. The finish on the beach was idyllic in the sunshine and with little wind, it was the perfect evening to finish the Tour on. 131 runners took part in the race which, yet again, was a huge number. The added complication of having two different starting points always puts the race starters and time keepers under pressure, but starters Jocelyn and Dave adopted the "stay calm, and carry on" approach and everything went swimmingly. There were a few bloody knees on display at the end as I think, in all the excitement, some you tripped en-route to the finish - I hope you're all ok.

Many of the top 3 positions were to be settled on the final night so it was exciting waiting at the finish line to see who was going to appear on the beach first - this turned out to be George Rees who sealed his Tour win in fine form, Monday nights winner Craig Morris followed 17 seconds later, and 3rd place was Archie Yarr, Craig and Archie were also 2nd and 3rd in the overall Tour. Within 1 minute of George crossing the line another 10 followed him so it was a very close race and great to see them still pushing themselves even after 5 days of racing. Abby Hay, Sam McInnes and Isla Browne finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd for the girls with the first 6 girls all finishing within a minute of each other which meant it was a close race for the girls too. Abby Hay was 1st in the overall tour, with Isla Browne taking 2nd place and Corrie Hay (who is definitely too tiny to be running that fast!) was 3rd.

The unstoppable Tristan Rees was a runaway winner in the U13s boys, with Fraser Allen, having another great run, finishing in 2nd and Samuel McKiddie put in his best performance to claim his first top 3 finish of the week. Tristan took the honours in the overall Tour, with newcomer Fraser Allan taking 2nd place and Ryan Brocklebank finished 3rd. Ana Brocklebank was first over the line for the girls (and in 6th place overall), followed by Rachel Hamilton and Eve Mortimer. Ana, Rachel and Eve were also the overall Tour top 3 girls.

Oskar Fraser-Krauss returned to winning ways and was first over the line for the under 15s, Ronan McKinstray put up a good fight to finish in 2nd and Tom Harris finished in 3rd just 3 seconds behind. After 5 days of racing the top 3 for the under 15 boys were Oskar Fraser-Krauss, Ronan McKinstry and Euan Strachan. Ailsa Cruickshanks cruised to victory once more in the under 15 girls, with Eve Primmer having another good run finishing in 2nd place, Leah Mortimer finished in 3rd place. Ailsa and Eve were our only 2 Tourists in the under 15 girls and claimed the 1st and 2nd place glory.

The under 18s followed the same pattern as all week, with Zach Delaney finishing strongly to take 1st place, Ewan Paton flew across the sand to finish 2nd and Joshua Crisp looked determined as his sprinted for the line in 3rd place. Zach, Ewan and Joshua were the leaders in the over Tour for the under 18s boys. Jennifer "too old to run next year" Cruickshanks was the leading lady, followed by sister Fiona "ha ha, I can still run next year" Cruickshanks in 2nd, Rachael Grieve was just 8 seconds further back in 3rd place, with Corryn Maree Christie finishing 4th. Jennifer won the Tour for the 3rd year, with Fiona and Corryn finishing in 2nd and 3rd

A huge well done to not only the prize winners, but all those who ran in the races - it's been a fantastic week and as I sit typig this on a very wet, miserable Saturday morning and I can't thank Dave enough for organising a week of dry weather! I hope you all enjoyed your goodie bags this year.... don't eat the contents all at once!!! There were so many people involved in organising the Tour, it was difficult to remember to mention them all at the prize giving - so if I forgot to mention you please don't think you're not appreciated! I know I forgot to mention Sue Whistler for giving us the Active Fife bags, frisbies and pencils, Jocelyn for her continuous motivation and never ending packing of the goodie bags, and Happy Helper Hilary for finding the fantastic water bottles. I (and I hope the other organisers) get lots of kind comments during the week from all the parents of runners, which is great - it reminds us that all the hard work is worthwhile. And thank you to those who have given me a wee thank you gift - it's incredibly kind of you. Once again I must thank Rhubarb Gifts for their donations and for Emmas assistance at the prize giving, Active Fife, Luvians (yummy ice cream providers), Dave Francis and Don McGregor for the vouchers, and Imagin Products for "Sarahs Special Prize"

You can all put your feet up now..... until the 22nd June where we hope to see you at Cairnie Fruit Farm for the juniors race and all the parents for the novice adult race.

Thursday - Tarvit Time Trail Race

134 Mini's Test Themselves Against the Clock

Results - Thursday

Results - Overall Tour

Once again the sun shone as 134 runners turned out for the time trial, thanks for listening carefully to all the instructions, everything went smoothly (I think) and there was some amazing sprint finishes. There were some extra entrants tonight which always mixes things up when legs tired from 4 days of racing are put to the test against fresh legs. Thanks to Fabienne Thomson who, once again, brought a bus full of young runners from Craigclowan school to enjoy the evening, and as you'll see from the results some of them were pretty speedy too - I hope you all enjoyed it

The under 11s boys race is anything but settled after the time trial was won by Archie Yarr in a fanstic time of 8:20 - well done Archie. Craig Morris put his heart and soul in the race tonight too, finishing in 2nd place and looked imensely determined as he crossed the line, and 3rd place went to Alex Thomson who also put in a fantastic performance. The Tour leader George Rees finished in 6th place tonight but still clings onto the pole position..... by 3 SECONDS. It's all down to Fridays race - best of luck to both of you. The next 3 places are very close too so Archie, Nico and Alex will be battling it out for that prize winning 3rd position. Another win tonight by Abby Hay, and another 2nd place by Isla Browne means their positions remain the same in the Tour, 3rd place in the Tour is filled by Corrie Hay but Zoe Duncan isn't that far behind so there's everything to run for at Kingsbarns.

Jamie Ingledew was the top trialist in the under 13 boys, followed by Fraser Allan and Tristan Rees - there was only 4 second separating these 3 - great running by all of them. The top 3 girls were Eilidh Smyth, Ana Brocklebank and Rachael Hamilton - with only 6 seconds separating these it was another close run. Tristan still leads the way in the Tour, but there are only 8 seconds separating Fraser and Ryan Brocklebank so more top places still to be settled.

On fresh legs Fergus Ingledew was the fastest feet in the under 15 with almost half a minute to spare. Ronan McKinstray was 2nd and Oskar Fraser-Krauss just 1 second back in 3rd place. Their positions in the Tour remain the same with Oskar in lead. The two under 15 girls, Ailsa Cruickshanks and Eve Primmer both had great runs tonight, with Ailsa flying into the finish a smidgen ahead of sister Fiona.

The under 18s race followed the same pattern as all the races this week with Zach Delaney posting a fantastic time of 6:51, followed by Ewan Paton and Joshua Crisp. Their Tour positions look sealed now, unless there's a major upset at Kingsbarns. Similarly for the girls Jennifer, Fiona Corryn and Tamara finished in the same order and therefore maintain their Tour positions.

Having run for 3 days already it was amazing to watch the sprint finishes - I don't know where you get the energy!!! Just one more day left before you can all put your feet up - maximum effort required for tomorrow nights grand finale. With 89 runners having completed all 4 races tomorrow nights prize giving tea party should be a busy one! We have some great momentos of your week along with a goodie bag full of "stuff". The goodie bags and momentos can be collected in the hall at the end of the prize giving. Rhubarb Gifts have afforded us some great momentos, Active Fife have donated the goodie bags and bag fillers, Luvians have kindly donated ice cream for all the Friday night runners, we have some "special awards" donated by Don Macgregor and Brian Cruickshanks and Imagin Badges has also donated a special prize. With all these prizes on offer (and not just for the Tour winners) it well worth coming to the hall tomorrow! See you all there

Wednesday - Heatherhall Woods Trail Race

The Day of The Socks

Results - Wednesday

Results - Overall Tour

If we were lucky last night, we were more than lucky tonight... raining on the way to the race, beautiful sunny weather during the race, and thunder, lightning and an absolute downpour immediately after leaving the woods.... Saint David Francis fixed the weather for us once more!

120 budding runners came along tonight to race around Heatherhall Woods - this was quite a few more than we planned for which is brilliant but it made the finish line a bit chaotic at times.... apologies to those who were confused (I was certainly confused!). However the results all worked out and are above - please let us know if there any major discrepencies. It was worth the added bit of confusion to give the spectators an excellent view of the runners doing their bit.

George Rees took first place in tonights race, but only just as Craig Morris was only 4 seconds behind, this means their Tour positions remain the same, but George's lead is only a small one. A little further behind there is a great tussle on for 3rd and 4th place with only 10 seconds separating Archie Yarr and Nico van Rensburg. Abby Hay scored another win tonight to extend her lead over Isla Browne just a little further. Zoe Duncan managed to beat Corrie Hay tonight for the first night this week so, similar to the boys race 3rd and 4th places are still incredibly close with just 15 seconds between them. Well done to Adam Canini who wasn't feeling very well at all tonight, but decided to walk round the course rather than lose out on his end-of-week Tour goodies.... what a star!

Tristan Rees won for the 3rd time this week in the under 13s, with Jamie Ingledew not far behind. As Jamie missed the hill race last night he can't challenge Tristan for the Tour title but did a great job of pushing him all the way tonight. Fraser Allan has continued his Tour debut in style finishing in 3rd only 6 seconds ahead of his rival Ryan Brocklebank, their Tour along with Alastair Primmer is still very, very close. Ana Brocklebank had a convincing win tonight over nearest competitors of Rachel Hamilton and Eve Mortimer

Ronan McInsttry had a fantastic run tonight in the under 15 race to take the top honours ahead of Euan Strachan and Oskar Fraser-Krauss, Oskar still holds the lead position in the overall Tour but can't afford to relax just yet or that top spot may be history! Ailsa Cruickshanks had a storming run tonight and looked every bit the stylish athlete and she stormed down the finishing straight - I wish I had half her style. Our other under 15 female tourist, Eve Primmer, finished in 7th place overall. Leah Mortimer joined in the racing tonight to place 3rd girl

Positions in the under 18 male race remained the same with Zach Delaney, Ewan Paton and Joshua Crisp finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Style gurus, Fiona and Jennifer Cruickshanks, donned on their funkiest of funky socks tonight.... was this a tatical move to make the competition stop in their tracks to look!!??? Their tactics must have worked as once again they were 1st and 2nd with Corryn Maree Christie and Tamara Levy finishing 3rd and 4th. Pamela Cruickshanks has also promised to wear "THE" socks on Friday.... I can't wait!

Sorry for focussing on just the leaders tonight, it was a tough task doing the results and took more concentration than normal so my usual observations were lost in amongst deperately trying to record the times and numbers. Thanks for everyones patience tonight after having to delay the start to wait for some athletes arriving back from the Fife Schools competition.

PLEASE REMEMBER THE CAKES - Friday night is always a good night with tea and cakes after the race.... the cake can only happen if the parents bring some along.... if you're like me and are useless in the kitchen then a packet of biscuits is perfectly good too!! Please bring along whatever you can and make the final evening a great one.

Thursdays race is the time trial with individual start times - runners are set off 4 at a time with 30 seconds between each group. Please ensure you are there for the usual start time of 6:45 and listen to the marshalls carefully - after doing so well all week you don't want to ruin your time by missing your start!

Tuesday - East Lomond Hill Race

Marvelous Mountains

Results - Tuesday

Results - Overall Tour

How lucky were we???? I left Cupar in an absolute down pour and the memories of last years mist covered race were flooding back, however by the time I reached the car park, there was a view and some bits of blue sky. Phew!

It looked like the numbers were much smaller at the start of the race but there were actually 99 runners on the start line, which is incredible. The hill race is often the race that changes the overall Tour positions and tonight was no exception, with George Rees displaying his hillability he led home the pack in the under 11s race. George has now leap frogged over Craig Morris and Archie Yarr to take the lead in the Tour, however it's only a slim lead so anything can happen yet. The Van Rensburg brothers were on good form taking 3rd and 4th place - you better watch out Nico, Ruan is sneaking up on you! Abby Hay was a clear winner for the girls tonight, but with 3 days still Isla has plenty of time to close the gap again. Corrie Hay is clearly a hill runner with a stunning performance tonight..... and a huge smile as she crossed the line - well done! Mairi McAdam is now "back in the Tour" and finished in a fine 31st place tonight - sorry for unceremoniously removing you from last nights results - we've found you on the results and it's all corrected.

Tristan Rees copied his wee brother and won the U13s, Ryan Brocklebank and Fraser Allen swapped places tonight with Ryan being the stronger on the hill, Tristan is a run-away leader at the moment but 2nd and 3rd is a long way from settled. Ana Brocklebank took the honours in the unders 13s with Rachael Hamilton and Eve Mortimer finishing 2nd and 3rd. Jimmy Brooks and Rhys Owen both put on great finishes and definitely take the awards for having the biggest fan base - the cheers of C'MON JIMMY and GO RHYS echoed around the hillside for their finishes!

Tom Harris was a clear winner tonight, although Oskar Fraser-Krauss is still leading the way for the under 15s, follwed by Ronan McKinstray and Euan Strachan,. Ronan proved his hill strength tonight and stole 2:34 from Euan Strachan, however the hills are now over and Euan is a quality runner. Eve Primmer sneaked ahead of Ailsa Cruickshanks tonight, but Ailsa still holds the overall lead in the Tour.

Zach Delaney, Ewan Paton and Joshua Crisp all competed in tonights under 18s race and held their positions from last night. Jennifer and Fiona Cruickshanks lead the way in the under 18s girls, Fionas fantastic socks were on display again tonight (aparently they HAVE been washed!)... Jennifer is "saving hers for a special occasion".... possibly tomorrow night could be the night for the sisters doing the sock double.... is The Mini Tour ready?????? Well done to Corryn Maree Christie and Tamara Levy who finished in 3rd and 4th place

Well done to all who ran tonight, the hill race is always a tough one..... be prepared for sore legs in the morning! See you all at Heatherhall tomorrow where we promise some flatter running.

Monday - Tentsmuir Beach Race

Morris Makes his Mark in the Sand

Results - Monday

The setting for tonights opening race of the Mini Tour was nothing short of stunning, the sun was out, the temperature was warm, the sea was calm and for once there was no wind to sandblast anyone who dares to expose their skin! It wasn't quite so calm in the car park at registration - I thought with 86 pre-entries I was set for an easy evening.... and then another 40 runners joined in the fun on the night!.

There was 113 runners starting tonights race, all ages from the teeny weenies to the teenagers tore off down the beach like there was no tomorrow.... but there is a tomorrow in the tour, and a next day, and a next day and another next day! I hope you've all kept a little in reserve for the rest of the week! As the tide had been in and was still quite high there were some extra obsticles on the course in the form of water channels - I hear it made for some excellent spectating as the runners splashed their way through them.

The fastest feet for the under 11s was Craig Morris, finishing 7th in last years Tour it looks like he means business this year. Craig has a narrow lead over Archie Yarr, George Rees and Nico Van Rensburg so it's set to be an interesting week of racing. First home for the girls was Isla Browne who had a sprint finish with Abby Hay to take the lead by half a millimetre! Both girls displaying their competitive side with neither giving in on their way to the line.

The under 13s race was a won by Tristan Rees looking ever the fine athlete as he glided across the sand, with Jamie Ingledew just 26 seconds adrift. 3rd place was filled by a newcomer to the Tour, Fraser Allan - good running Fraser... what a fantastic start to your tour! Ana Brocklebank stole the show for the girls, only 48 seconds behind Eilidh Smyth crossed the line to take 2nd place with Rachel Hamilton in 3rd and only a further 6 seconds behind.

Oskar Fraser Krauss has the lead for the under 15 boys, ahead of Euan Strachan and Ronan McKinstray, Oskar now has nearly a minutes lead but will it be enough over the next 4 days? So much running still to be done it will be interesting to watch these 3 over the next few days. We only have 2 girls in this category but both battled hard along the beach which stretched out for a long way in the U15/U18 race. Ailsa Cruickshanks finished 1st, followed by Eve Primmer.

The under 18s ran the same course as the under 15s with Zach Delaney cruising to 1st place, Ewan Paton looked strong as he headed for the finish in 2nd place, with last minute entrant Jason Crisp only 23 seconds behind Ewan. 2 times tour winner Jennifer Cruickshanks took the lead for the girls in what will be her final Mini Tour, with Rachael Grieve in 2nd place and Fiona Cruickshanks in 3rd place. The under 15s and 18s have it tough when there are fewer runners and a much longer course to run so all deserve a huge thumbs up for their performances.

It was absolutely fantastic to see so many of you take part, and I hope the weather gods are as kind tomorrow night! See you all then.

Friday - Kingsbarns

With the sun out and a stiff breeze blowing the conditions were good for the final night of this years Mini Tour. With the added complication of two different start points for different age groups we were relying on mobile phone technology to get both races off at the same time.... which almost failed as my phone said “network unavailable” on my first two attempts to make the call.... uh oh! However the 3rd time brought success and the race was underway.

The Under 11s seemed to be round their 1 mile route in a flash and came over the line 4 and 5 at a time which made the timekeeping interesting to say the least. All of them were putting in huge efforts knowing that “this was it”, they could rest up tomorrow. Adam Scott continued his winning week and was first over the line, with the ever competitive George Rees taking 2nd spot. The next 3 spots were filled by Harvey Kennedy, Alistair Primmer and Jamie Scobie who have spent the whole week switching their finishing positions with each other – clearly a competitive bunch. Maddie Owen claimed her 5th victory of the week, but only just as Rachael Hamilton was hot on her heels crossing the line just 5 seconds behind. Nico Van Rensburg has been steadily improving his positions all week and finished in 11th place and looked strong and determined to the end. I also spotted Rhys Owen from Dairsie who really went for it crossing the sand – looking at his results for the week he obviously enjoyed the hill race posting his best result on Tuesday finishing in 8th place – well done Rhys!

All the other age groups had to battle with the head wind coming all the way along the beach to the finish. In the under 13s Tristan Rees reclaimed his top spot crossing the line more than a minute in front of Oskar Fraser-Krauss. Euan Rose who had won 2 of this weeks races finished in 3rd. Ana Brocklebank had a storming run tonight to take the honours in the girls race, and Ailsa Cruickshanks never gave up chasing her all the way to finish in 2nd place. Recent member to Fife AC Joe Forrester has shown real determination through the whole week finishing in 13th place tonight, I know he’ll get stronger and stronger over the coming year and will be one to watch next year.

In the under 15s Regan Dryden was first over the line with Katey Turner taking 2nd place overall and 1st girl. Some new entrants on the night in the under 18s category also gave these pair a run for their money tonight which I’m sure would have pushed them on. Fergus Ingledew had another great run finishing 2nd boy, Corryn Maree Christie rounded her tour off with a 2nd place in the girls race and Nicola Howat was 3rd girl.

The under 18s saw Scottish Internationalist Adam Harris finish 1st in a great time of 18:19, 2nd place was taken by Thomas Knox who was also a fresh legged entrant on the night. Euan Paton completed his Tour in 3rd place – as our only under 18 boy, thanks for coming Euan and not letting that minor issue of a broken arm stop you! The girls race saw Jennifer Cruickshanks post her 5th win of the series, followed by Elaine Cairns in 2nd place. Lucy Duff and Fiona Cruickshanks had a close battle with just 2 seconds separating them. Rachael Grieve finished in 5th place for the girls.

Well done to all the runners – it was a fantastic week. Thanks to all their parents for bringing them along every night (I know it’s not easy!). And of course thanks to all the people who helped with organisation, marshalling, reporting, photographing, tea and cake making, cheering. And thanks to our sponsors : The Grill House, Tesco, Janettas, Luvians, Cairnie Fruit Farm, Carrie Ruxton Nutrition and Imagin Badges.

See you all next year!

Thursday - Tarvit Time Trial

The sun shone on us tonight (well a little bit anyway) and the Tarvit Estate was looking resplendent. The buzz at the time trial is always amazing with everyone having to line up in their groups waiting with baited breath for their own start to be called. It’s also a funny old race as you have no idea who is in the lead and it often throws up a few surprises.... which makes doing the results quite interesting!

Mixing things up a bit tonight were the girls and boys from Craigclowan school – 12 came along to race in the under 11s category – and some of them were incredibly fast with 2 of them finishing in the top 6. I hope you all enjoyed it.

Poor wee George Rees was sporting a major chin injury, but couldn’t possibly miss the Tour! And it didn’t seem to slow him down as he finished 2nd to Adam Scott. I also spotted Peter Scott tonight showing excellent form as he made his huge sprint finish to the line.... team Scott will be a force to be reckoned with in the coming years.

Euan Rose claimed his 2nd victory of the week just beating Tristan by 1 second, however Tristan still has a big lead in the overall standings due to his amazing performance at the hill race. The top 4 girls in the under 13s all did brilliantly tonight finishing within 11 seconds of each other – great running girls.

Regan Dryden kept up his brilliant form once again with Katey Turner finishing 1st girl just 18 seconds behind him. Leah Mortimer who found the beach race a real tough one has continued to battle on showing good potential and great determination.

In the under 18s Euan Paton kept ahead of Jennifer Cruickshanks.... but only just. It will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow night.... can Jennifer pull out all the stops to claim another win?

1 more night to go guys, I know your legs must be getting tired but just one more wee race and you can rest up – give it your all!! Don’t forget to come to the prize giving whether you’re in the lead or not – we have some special prizes to award that are well worth waiting for.... not to mention the tea and cake.

Wedensday - Tentsmuir

I don’t know about the runners but I preferred the weather tonight.... we had time to spot the runners coming from afar, and there were some fantastic performances on display tonight.

In the under 11s Harvey Kennedy and Alastair Primmer were officially doing battle tonight – their sprint for the line was just brilliant, we couldn’t separate them, and with only a minute separating the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th positions in the Tour there’s everything to run for... keep it going guys. Equally in the under 11 girls race Isla Brown and Jessie Barnett had a brilliant sprint for the finish line and again we couldn’t separate them; as they are 2nd and 3rd in the Tour and with only just over a minute between them it’s making it an exciting competition to watch. Golly, these under 11s are so competitive... either that or they just like making it hard for us time keepers! Adam Scott and Maddie Owen maintained their unbroken wins, making it 3 out of 3 wins, but what makes it even more special is that they don’t sit back and rest, you see the effort going in every night – top marks guys.

We have quite a few really, really mini’s this year (do we have to put in an under 7 category next year??). I dare anyone to watch Laura Brierley and try not to smile – her grin is simply infectious. At 4 years old Mark Scott is following in brother Adams footstep – watch out Adam, he will be challenging you in the next few years. And what can we say about twins Polly and Rae Geddes, it really is great to see them out taking part – it shows you’re never too young to take on the tour.

Euan Rose had his best run of the Tour so far and finished 1st place in the under 13s with Tristan just a few seconds adrift. Oskar Fraser-Krauss finished in 3rd place and looked a little tired tonight – keep it going Oskar.... the gap between 2nd and 3rd has closed so you need to hang in there – you know you can do it. Ana Brocklebank and Ailsa Cruikshanks came in 1st and 2nd girls with just a few seconds separating them, their Tour battle is a close one and could go either way at the moment.

Regan Dryden once again stormed over the line in 1st position but Katey Turner really did give him a run for his money tonight chasing him all the way along the finishing straight. Corryn Maree Christie also had a great run tonight, just edging back into 2nd place in the overall tour after being equal 2nd with Nicola Howat following the hill race.

In the under 18s Euan Paton is not letting his broken arm stop him and put in another fine performance tonight in his bid to regain his fitness (remember Euan, biking is clearly not for you!) and Jennifer Cruickshanks made the run look effortless (although I know it’s not) as she crossed the line in 1st place.

Welcome to Anna Malcolmson, Morgan Middleton, Ross Davidson, Fergus Ingledew and George and Archie Yarr who all joined in the fun tonight – I hope you took advantage of your fresh legs tonight!

Tomorrow brings the time trial where it’s a battle against the clock as you all go off at individual start times. These start times will be published on the website shortly – please do come along at the normal time as it means we can get all the cars into the car park before the race starts. Good luck to all..... remember when you’re feeling tired and feeling like you just can’t do it “think bag”!

Tuesday - East Lomond

Well amazingly enough 80 young runners took to the hills tonight - frankly I think your all mad, no amazing, no mad, well, whatever you are, well done to you all.

I was really worried that the wet underfoot conditions and the thick clag would be a safety nightmare and we should consider changing the course, but Dave F was confident that all would be well and we should run the courses as normal. For once I'm delighted that I was wrong!!

It was brilliant to watch the smiling faces appear out of the mist.... and they appeared so quickly! With visibility so low the finishers were appearing so suddenly it barely gave us time to catch their numbers.... but hopefully we got you all. There were lots of reports about good humour and adventurous spirits while out on the hill.

The naughty dog from the beach was confined to the house tonight and left the rain to do it's job of wiping the runners off their feet on the slippy grass. There were one or two war wounds on display... but seemed to be proudly on display, with not a tear in sight.

All the leaders from the beach race have held on to their top spots, but some of the 2nds, 3rds and 4ths have now switched as the terrain and conditions provided a completely different challenge to the flat, calms of the beach.

Currently there are 74 full tour competitors who are going for “the bag”.... I hope you all make it through the week. We also had 4 newcomers tonight - Ethan McFarlane, Craig Brown and Steiner Sanderson travelled up from Hillside School in Aberdour, and Chloe Hazel from St Andrews. Hopefully you enjoyed your tour experience and that you’ll be back again tomorrow.

Finally a big thank you for the support from the parents tonight, who helped line the route and all the extra marshals who came along to give their support – without this we may not have been able to run the normal hill route.

Right, I’m now off to do the sun dance so tomorrow will be a fine night for both runnning spectating.... bring it on!

Monday - St Andrews Beach

The Tour is now underway with 90 runners completing the 1st race in the series. The overcast and occasionally showery weather didn't seem to dampen the spirits of the runners with some top performances on display. I have to confess that half the runners arrived even before I did and were patiently waiting for their numbers! What a fantastic sight to see all the young runners line up on the beach, creating a real buzz amongst both the runners and spectators alike.

Last years under 11s winner Adam Scott was first over the line again this year, closely followed by George Rees and Harvey Kennedy, with only a few seconds separating them it will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow when they tackle the hill race. Maddie Owen took the top honours in the Under 11 girls race, closely followed by the increasingly speedy Jessie Barnett - good going girls! It was great to see the wide grins of the runners as they crossed the line, and top marks to Tom Logan who was wiped out by naughty dog Brandy just yards from the finish line got back on his feet and crossed the line.... that dog cost you at least 3 seconds Tom!

In the under 13s the top spot was taken by Tristan Rees, with Oscar Fraser-Krauss and Euan Rose in 2nd and 3rd, and the girls race was really close with just 3 seconds separating Ailsa Cruickshanks and Ana Brocklebank, with Eve Primmer just behind in 3rd spot.

The two older categories ran the same longer course and it seemed quite long this year... probably not helped by the ever present head wind. It was a tough race with Regan Dryden coming in 1st U15 male, Katey Turner 1st U15 female, Jennifer Cruickshanks 1st U18 female and Ewan Paton 1st U18 boy (even with a broken arm!).

Well done to everyone who ran.... I just hope you haven't tried too hard, there's still 4 more days to go!

Apologies go to Leah Mortimer - we hope it hasn't put you off and look forward to seeing you on the hill side tomorrow
